Vibrex Flora for Hydroponics
Nutrient solutions are a perfect breeding ground for many types of disease. To prevent disease from developing in your nutrient solution and infecting your plants, the nutrient solution must be regularly sterilised.

Testimony from a grower:

“No more do I see signs of bad stuff in the tanks, like clouds of white slimy gack floating around and collecting on the air stone. Since I started sterilising my nutrient, my plants are just scorching along.”

What is Vibrex Flora H? It contains chlorine dioxide which, in chemical terms, is an 'oxidant'. used throughout the world for sterilising water supplies. The reasons for its worldwide demand is:

1) Powerful sterilising ability.
2) Long half-life.
3) Targets ALL water borne diseases, virus' and pathogens.
4) Freely dissolves into water and can therefore be pumped down long pipelines to disinfect as it travels. For these reasons and more, Vibrex Flora H, is ideal in hydroponics for the following purposes:

Sterilising your nutrient solution - this is vital because the nutrient solution is where most diseases originate. In recirculating systems this process also sterilises system hardware and roots.

Pre sterilising raw water
- this guards against accidentally adding disease to your system because most waters’ contain pathogens.

Sterilising system hardware between crops - this includes most growing mediums except Rockwool, coco peat and sawdust.

What are the diseases that Vibrex Flora H targets and can they develop a resistance?

Vibrex Flora H is an “oxidising agent” which enables it to attack ALL disease types without them becoming resistant to its effectiveness. This of course is one of the main reasons why chlorine dioxide is one of the few products trusted for sterilising town water supplies. Note that bacterial methods of control and systemic fungicides are typically only effective against a narrow range of diseases.

Can Vibrex Flora H revive a crop that is diseased?

When you have diseased plants, regular sterilisation of the nutrient helps maintain an optimum root environment. In that environment, the roots can operate more effectively and therefore your entire plant is more capable of defending itself if disease enters. Plants can regenerate and heal themselves quickly.

Is it better to prevent disease or to cure?

Prevention is far safer because disease always slows growth and causes inferior yield. Recovery processes are also risky, expensive and stressful. Imagine how a commercial grower feels when disease spreads throughout all his greenhouse's because he failed to take any preventative measures. It is far safer and easier to maintain a sterile system.

How often should you use Vibrex Flora H?

It is 'consumed' as it acts against pathogens and organic “impurities” in your system. Hence when placed in a sterile system it lasts a few hours. But, when demand for it is high due to a large disease population, it is quickly destroyed, lasting maybe only a few minutes. Therefore, for diseased systems, VFH must be used daily. Healthy systems should be dosed every second day because regular dosing will help keep your plants free of disease.

Are you using enough VFH?

The recommended dose, which is based on a reasonably sterile system, may be low if your system is dirty. In such a system, disease may enter and be allowed to thrive. To overcome this we can supply a ‘VFH Test Kit' which enables you to determine the optimum dose rate on any given day.

Can over-dosing with VFH cause root burn?

Laboratory tests have concluded that short-term over-dosing is typically harmless on roots. However, it is highly recommended to use the Test Kit’ as a guide when trying to optimise the dose because significant long-term over-dosing could result in temporary root damage.

Are hydrogen peroxide and VFH similar?

Hydrogen peroxide is used in hydroponics for increasing a nutrient’s oxygen concentration. Notice that it is normally only advertised for this purpose. It is not very useful as a sterilising agent in hydroponics because it only becomes effective when the nutrients pH is around 1, which is far too low for plant growth.

Should you use foliar fungicidal sprays?

VFH is non systemic and designed solely for the purpose of nutrient and hardware disinfection. Therefore, if foliage is showing signs of disease you should additionally employ a legal foliar fungicide. Note, in many cases, correct humidity control will help prevent disease from penetrating foliage.

Dosage:

Commercial strength (50g/l = 5% solution)
General dose rate is 20ml per 1000l every second day.

System suitability:

Suitable for all system types. If using organic nutrients, VFH must be used at least 15 minutes prior to their addition.

Shelf-life:

Indefinite.

Usage:

Pre dilute into water then mix into the nutrient solution. Use P Pythoff Test Kit to optimise dose rate.
